Alhamdulillah, as we bid farewell to Ramadan 1447/2026, we reflect on a truly remarkable and transformative month at the Muslim Cultural & Welfare Association of Sutton. This Ramadan was defined by the Qur’an, strengthened by community, and marked by impact – both locally and globally. From packed Taraweeh nights to life-changing moments of guidance, MCWAS stood as a beacon of unity, worship, and service.

A Ramadan Defined by the Qur’an

At the heart of MCWAS this Ramadan was a deep and immersive connection with the Qur’an. We were honoured to host a lineup of renowned reciters from across the world, delivering a truly unique Taraweeh experience featuring all 10 Qira’at. Each night offered something distinct – captivating hearts and elevating the spiritual atmosphere.

Enhancing this experience was a new, high-quality sound system, creating a powerful and immersive atmosphere often described by attendees as reminiscent of the Haramain.

Complementing this were:

  • Daily Tafsir class after Asr by Shaykh Muhammad Ziyad

  • Taraweeh summaries after Isha by Shaykh Saalim al-Azhari

These sessions allowed the community to not only listen to the Qur’an, but to understand, reflect, and apply its meanings.

Taraweeh That Brought London Together

Ramadan 2026 saw MCWAS reach maximum capacity, with worshippers travelling from across London to be part of the experience. Night after night, the masjid was filled with rows of attendees standing together in prayer. The diversity and mastery in recitation created an atmosphere that was both powerful and deeply moving. Across social media and livestreams, these moments reached thousands more, extending the impact far beyond those physically present.

Qiyam, Collaboration and Developing Future Leaders

The last ten nights were marked by deeply spiritual Qiyam prayers.

In a strong example of collaboration, these prayers were led by local South London imams and students from our in-house Huffadh Development Programme. This not only strengthened ties across the community, but also highlighted MCWAS’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of imams and leaders.

We also hosted a unique Surah al-Baqarah in 2 Rak’ahs Qiyam on night 25, reviving the practice of our pious predecessors, as well as a special Hands off Al-Aqsa Qiyam on night 29.

In addition, Youth Taraweeh across the last three nights provided a space for younger members of the community to engage, lead, and connect with the masjid in a meaningful way, hopefully inspiring them towards greater achievements.

Service, Charity and Community Impact

This Ramadan was also one of immense generosity and impact. Over £200,000 was raised and distributed towards:

  • Local and international charitable causes

  • Advocacy initiatives

  • Youth development programmes

  • Key masjid improvements, including the completion of the brothers’ bathroom campaign

Community Iftars

We welcomed over 300 attendees for our weekend community iftars, creating a vibrant and inclusive space for individuals and families to break their fast together. On weekdays, we hosted light iftars for the whole community. A highly successful Neighbours Iftar further strengthened ties with the wider community, fostering understanding, connection, and goodwill.

Ramadan Food Pack Campaign

As part of our wider community support, over 650 food packs were distributed to families and individuals in need, alongside the provision of hot iftar meals. This ensured that the blessings of Ramadan reached beyond the masjid and into the wider community.

Nurturing Faith, Knowledge and the Next Generation

A wide range of other programmes ensured that every segment of the community was engaged:

  • First Ramadan Hifz Challenge, culminating in a beautiful awards ceremony on the 28th night

  • Youth halaqahs on weekends

  • Sisters’ Surah Mulk study series

  • Daily learning through Tafsir and reminders

These initiatives reflect MCWAS’s long-term vision of building a community grounded in knowledge, faith, and action.

A Month of Guidance

Alhamdulillah, five individuals embraced Islam with MCWAS, marking significant and life-changing moments.

A Connected Community

This year saw effective use of digital platforms. Through Instagram, YouTube livestreams, and daily content, MCWAS was able to reach and benefit thousands beyond the masjid walls, sharing the message and spirit of Ramadan with a wider audience.

Volunteers: The Heart of It All

Behind every success was a team of dedicated volunteers. From managing crowds at full capacity, organising iftars, supporting programmes, and ensuring a welcoming environment, their efforts were essential to the success of the month.

Gratitude

We extend our sincere thanks to:

  • Our scholars, reciters, and teachers

  • Our donors and supporters

  • Our volunteers and staff

  • Every member of the community who attended and contributed

Your support continues to make MCWAS a thriving centre of faith, service, and unity.

Beyond Ramadan

As Ramadan concludes, its impact continues.

We ask Allah to accept our efforts and allow us to carry the spirit of Ramadan into the months ahead.

The true success of Ramadan lies in what comes after it.

At MCWAS, we remain committed to building on this momentum, serving our community, nurturing our youth, and strengthening our connection with the Qur’an.
