Get Involved with MCWAS Sub-Committees
Muslim Cultural & Welfare Association of Sutton (MCWAS) is looking for volunteers to join three of our Sub-Committees and help shape the work we do across the community.
A Sub-Committee is a small group of volunteers who bring their skills, experience and knowledge to support a specific area of MCWAS. Working alongside the Trustees and wider team, Sub-Committee members help provide advice, ideas and practical support, contributing to the development and delivery of MCWAS’s work.
Admin & HR - Support HR, administration, governance, volunteers and organisational development.
External Relations - Build relationships with mosques, community organisations, faith groups, councillors, MPs and other partners.
Facilities & Property Management - Help oversee our buildings, facilities, compliance, maintenance, property and sustainability.
These are voluntary roles offering an opportunity to use your skills, share your experience, expand your network and help make a positive difference in our community. 🌟

This is a volunteer role to support a small team covering the Junior Trustee Council, legal advice team, and HR policy & support.
You’ll deal with volunteer records, recruitment and onboarding, shared inboxes, organising meetings, minutes, policy updates, governance, GDPR, and offering HR guidance where needed.
If you have HR experience, are organised, can handle confidential info, and enjoy helping the community we’d love to have you involved!
This is a great way to expand your network, gain more experience and understand how a volunteer organisation works.
Admin & HR (AHR) Sub-Committee Member
The Admin & HR (AHR) Sub-Committee Members oversee MCWAS’s HR and Admin tasks ensuring these are carried out professionally and to a good standard.
The Sub-Committee Members will manage AHR officers in this function which will include:

Legal Advice Officer

SUMMARY
The Admin & HR (AHR) Sub-Committee Members oversee MCWAS’s HR and admin functions, ensuring tasks are delivered professionally and to a high standard. They manage the Junior Trustee Council Officer, Legal Advice Officer, and HR Policy & Advice Officer, and are responsible for HR records, recruitment support, office systems, meetings, policy updates, governance work, GDPR, and providing legal guidance. The role also includes managing the Junior Trustee Council and promoting strong teamwork across the AHR function. Essential skills include admin or HR experience, strong organisation and communication, confidentiality, a supportive approach, and the ability to lead officers effectively.
Key responsibilities
Manage and direct the officers in AHR function
Maintain HR and volunteer records
Support recruitment and onboarding
Assist with office/admin systems and shared inboxes
Help organise meetings and take minutes
Support policy updates, governance tasks, and GDPR
Providing legal advice.
Manage the Junior Trustee Council
Ensure good teamworking in AHR function.
Skills and experience
Admin or HR experience (paid or voluntary)

MCWAS needs an External Relations (ER) Lead to build relationships with other mosques, Muslim-led organisations, faith groups, and wider civic partners (local councillors and MPs) to strengthen collaboration and improve impact.
You’d also support a friendly team of officers covering global civic engagement, civic resilience & advocacy, policy monitoring, and local/national partnerships. The role includes leading the ER function, representing MCWAS in community and sector networks, coordinating joint initiatives, and supporting senior leadership with external engagement and advocacy. If you're good at building relationships, know your way around community or charity work, understand governance and risk, and enjoy helping the community we’d love to have you involved!

External Relations (ER) Sub-Committee Member
The External Relations (ER) Lead will be responsible to build and manage strategic relationships with other mosques, Muslim-led organisations, faith groups, and global civic partnerships to strengthen collaboration, shared learning, and collective impact. The Lead will manage ER officers in this function which will include:
Global Civic Engagement Officer
Civic Resilience & advocacy Officer
Policy Monitoring Officer
(Local/National) Partnerships Officer

SUMMARY
Responsible for building strategic partnerships with mosques, Muslim organisations, faith groups, and global civic partners to strengthen collaboration and impact. Oversees the ER team, including the Global Civic Engagement, Civic Resilience & Advocacy, Policy Monitoring, and Partnerships Officers.
Key responsibilities
Manage and direct the officers in ER function
Develop and maintain partnerships with local, regional, and national mosques and Muslim organisations
Represent MCWAS in inter-mosque forums, faith networks, and sector events
Coordinate joint initiatives, shared services, and collaborative campaigns
Support trustees and senior leadership in external engagement and advocacy
Ensure all partnerships align with MCWAS values, strategy, and charity law
Ensure good teamworking in ER function.
Skills and experience
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Experience working with community, faith, or voluntary organisations
Confident communicator with a collaborative mindset
Understanding of governance, reputation, and risk in a charity setting
Ability to lead team members / officers to deliver effectively together

MCWAS needs help keep its buildings and facilities safe, compliant, well-maintained, and environmentally responsible. You’d support a small team of volunteer officers covering facilities management, site communications & media, youth engagement, site coordination, and volunteer coordination.
In this role, you’d oversee day-to-day facilities and health & safety, manage leases and property use, coordinate maintenance and contractor work, and help lead our sustainability and “Green Mosque” efforts. You’d also support expansion projects and encourage great teamwork across the function.
If you’ve got experience in operations, facilities, or property management, understand compliance and health & safety, enjoy practical problem-solving, have an interest in sustainability, and like supporting a team — we’d love to have you involved!

Facilities & Property Management (FPM)
This role ensures MCWAS buildings, facilities, and properties are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and environmentally responsible.
The Lead will manage OFP officers in this function which will include:

The Facilities & Property & Management (FPM) members ensure MCWAS buildings and facilities are safe, compliant, well-maintained, and environmentally responsible. The roles manage officers covering facilities management, site communications & media, youth engagement, site coordination, and volunteer coordination.
Key responsibilities
Manage and direct the officers in FPM function
Oversee day-to-day facilities management and health & safety compliance
Manage leases, property usage, and relationships with landlords or councils
Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and contractor management
Lead sustainability and “Green Mosque” initiatives
Support expansion projects, satellite sites, and space optimisation
Ensure good teamworking in OFP function.
Skills and experience
Experience in facilities, property, or operations management
Strong understanding of compliance, health & safety, and risk management
Practical, solution-focused mindset
Experience with sustainability or environmental projects is desirable
Ability to lead team members / officers to deliver effectively together
